                                                                                 FULL-TIME FIREFIGHTER

 

 

 

GENERAL-

The Wakarusa Township Fire Department is establishing an eligibility list for future hiring of Firefighters. This is only an eligibility list and in no way, implies or guarantees any employment with Wakarusa Township. This eligibility list will remain active for 12 months.

 

JOB DESCRIPTION-

As a Wakarusa Township Firefighter, you will be required to work both independently and as a member of a team to provide life safety, property preservation, and medical care. This position also participates in fire prevention and inspection activities, equipment and station maintenance, public education, and training. This position will also complete other duties as assigned.

 

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

  • Must be 18 years of age at time of application

  • Valid Kansas Driver’s License and insurable through Wakarusa Township Insurance.

  • High School Diploma or GED

  • IFSAC F/F 1 with ability to obtain F/F 2 within 12 months of hire

  • IFSAC Hazardous Materials Operations Certification

  • Nationally Registered or State of Kansas Certified Emergency Medical Responder with ability to obtain Emergency Medical Technician within 12 months of hire

  • NIMS 100, 200, 700

 

WORK ENVIRONMENT-

Candidates shall have the ability to perform all functions associated with fire suppression, EMS, Station/equipment maintenance as assigned. Effective communication and leadership skills with ability to work independently. Candidates will be able to maintain effective working relationships with members of the organization, outside agencies, and the citizens of the community.

This position is for a 24-hour Berkeley shift schedule (24 hrs. on, 24 hrs. off, 24hrs on, 24 hrs. off, 24hrs on, 96 hrs. off, the schedule then repeats).

 

COMPENSATION-

The starting salary will be dependent upon qualifications and experience. Pay and benefits will be discussed during initial interview.
